Measuring 9 m long and 0.7 m in diameter, the liquid fueled rocket is designed to carry 100 kg of scientific payload 500 km into space on a suborbital trajectory. The first launch is planned from Woomera, South Australia in 1998. Also on display at Spaceworks'96 were the AUSROC III flight carbon fibre nosecone and prototype carbon fibre payload shroud. A picture of the mockup can be obtained from http://www.sworld.com.au/space/ausroc/images/a3mockup.jpg Spaceworks'96 was a combination of three space related conferences; the 10th National Space Engineering Symposium, the 4th Space Development Conference, and the 8th Australian Remote Sensing Conference. All three conferences were held in parallel during 27 to 29 March 1996. ASRI is a voluntary professional organisation working with academia, government, and industry to provide focussed, nationally integrated programs for the advancement of space science, technology, and education within Australia. -- Steven S.
