Steven Pietrobon University of South Australia, SA 20 February 1995 (Phone: +61 8 302 3863) RELEASE: 95-1 ASRI ANNOUNCES LAUNCH DATE FOR AUSROC II-2 The Australian Space Research Institute last week finalised the launch date for AUSROC II-2 as 24 May 1995 from the Woomera range in South Australia. AUSROC II-2 is the largest amateur liquid fueled rocket ever constructed in Australia and one of the largest to be manufactured in the world. The 6 metre liquid oxygen/kerosene rocket has had many changes made to it to correct the design defficiencies which led to the failure of AUSROC II on 22 October 1992. These include: o Stainless steel air lines to operate the valves o Electrical disconnect lines located away from the engine o A more powerful and thermally isolated liquid oxygen valve and actuator o Check valves between the Helium regulators and propellant tanks o Tri-fin arrangement as opposed to the original cruciform o Stronger and stiffer launch rail
